When they are adults females are larger than males. You can sex them but it should be done by a professional, due to causing harm to them.
Also Look at it from underneath. Find the vent, at the base of the tail. In the females, there is a gradual taper from the body to the end of the tail. In adult males, there is an abrupt taper a little bit past the vent, then a gradual taper to the end.

if she wears other rings than steal one and find its size by taking it to a jeweler while she is at work or something. No other rings? ask a girl with a ring who has about the same sized hands as your girl what her ring size is (make sure you tell her why you are asking, so you dont sound like a creep) Dont worry if you are a size off, they can be resized.
Average ring size for an average sized girl = 6

Edit: ring size and shoe size have nothing in common. Im a shoe size 10, ring size 6 1/2. a ring size 10 would be to big for my thumb!
