How can I turn my digital camera into a webcam?

I have a nikon digital camera, and it came with the USB cable that connects it to upload pics. I have heard that you can download software that when you attach your camera to the computer, it can make it turn into a webcam. Is this true? I’d really like to know asap. What’s a good digital camera to take on a rainforest trip?

I’m going on a school trip to the rainforests in south america next week, and can’t bring my old faithful digital camera along because it uses a rechargeable battery and we won’t have electricity for two weeks. I’d also like it to be somewhat waterproof and shockproof. Do you know of anything that might work?

You will need to take a 35 mm SLR camera since you will have no way to charge batteries. They are not waterproof or shockproof.

The good news is I spent ten days camping in the Olympic National Forest which is a rain forest. I kept my camera in a backpack in a ziplock bag. I carried extra bags in case one stopped sealing and at the end of the camping trip, my camera was still working and did not show any signs of damage due to moisture.

Shockproof is something that has only appeared recently in P&S cameras (they need batteries though) I think form the fact that people don’t take care of their cameras and electronics as well as they used to.

My camera can take like 50 pics and then it will have a low battery. Why does it do that. I have rechargable battires and charger but it doesn’t work very good.Please help.

This might sound dumb but my camera has 12.1. I am a photographer so I need that many MP. I would say that 7 is a perfectly fine MP to have. That is the size of a standard poster. I would also say that canon is the best type of camera and would suggest the canon powershot.
