What is everyone’s opinion about the silicon bakeware?
The bakeware that looks and feels like rubber. Suppose to be the “thing” right now. I’m scared to spend money on the stuff. Would like to know what everyone thinks of them. From the muffin “tins” to the cake “pan” to anything else you have tried with the stuff. Thanks!

Hey Dee C,
I think it’s great. Buy one item & try it out yourself. I don’t like the oven type mitts though. They are too big for my hands and drop off.

How do I get hard water stains out of my enamel-ware bakeware/roaster?
I have a G.E. Roaster that I have also used for cooking and boiling (it’s the kind that is dual purpose). I boiled some water in it the other day and now there are rings of hard water in it that a scouring pad and/or Bar Keeper’s Friend will not clean off of it. Any suggestions? Will oven cleaner harm the enamelware or should I try something else? TIA!

Hey Marie F,
Vinegar – straight the white distilled kind. You can make a paste of it and baking soda and let it sit till dry it will come right off. The barkeepers friend should work in a paste too.

Know anything about bakeware?
I want to buy all new bakeware at a moderate price, but I want to get really good stuff that will last a long time and that is pretty easy to clean. I don’t bake a lot, so I don’t need every piece in the world – just the basic stuff.
What brand should I look for? Features?
Also, has anyone tried the flexible bakeware (I think by kitchenaid – it’s red)? Do you like it?
Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:
Hey April,
look for non stick. i don’t remember the brand but i think its ecko who makes airbake, it works really well because the surface you cook on is spaced about an eight inch from the outside of the pan so you don’t direct heat the baking items and they cook more evenly and stick less. i tried the flex stuff too, the cupcake and bread loaf pans are excellent, im not crazy about the cookie sheet but, they do store easily.

I just got a large portable convection toaster oven w/a broiler. Is silicone bakeware safe to use in it?
I’m wondering because even though the oven is a larger model, the heating elements will still be rather close in proximity to the baking pans. I’d hate to start a fire in my new toaster oven. I’ve never used silicone bakeware before, but I want to try it and many of the pieces would be the perfect size I need.
Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:
Hey squeaky945,
I honestly wouldn’t trust it…never broil with silicone bakeware…
I would get some insulated Wilton pans, which can be picked up at Wal Mart or Canadian Tire, for the simple reason that the surface area in the oven is still smaller than a regular oven, and the insulated pans may offer more protection against your food getting accidentally burned…
also a good investment would be an oven thermometer, they cost less than 10 bucks and pretty much gauran-darn-tee you’ll never burn anything ever again…For real!
