DVD Player User Questions

How can I get my DVD player to play at full volume on my tv?

I have noticed that when I play a dvd, the volume is significantly reduced. I get the same results no matter which dvd player I connect to any of my LCD televisions. And it does not matter which type of connection I use (composite, component, or HDMI). I get the same results: significantly reduced volume. Could the attenuation of the volume signal be due to impedence mismatch, or is there another explanation. Either way, does someone have a solution? Thanks.

How to hook up my dvd player and wii at the same time?

I have a dtv, (whatever that means) Its has the regular av hookups in the back (yellow, white, red) its also got, blue, green, orange. I have my dvd player hooked up to s-video, but I’m not able to hook my wii up at the same time. Could someone please tell me what I should do?

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey The Moose,
There are little things you can get that plug into the Composite cable slots (Yellow, white, red) and they have two scart plugins on them, it means you can hook up both your dvd and wii at the same time. Or failing that homebrew your wii and use that as a dvd player.

Hey CherryBabez101,
iff you have the silver io remote, there is a button on the bottom that says video source… press that button…

(EDIT) the inputs are on the front of the scientific atlantic cable boxes.. the ports in the back are outputs… make sure wherever you wired your dvd player to it comes from the outputs of the dvd player to the inputs of the cable box…

How come sometimes a DVD will play correctly on one DVD player but play incorrectly in another?

For example, I was watching the Bonus DVD for Final Fantasy 12 and I tried to select the music interview on the menu and the player freezes up (i’m using the PS2 as the DVD player). However, when I put the same DVD into my computer DVD player it works fine.

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey trer,
Maybe the DVD is scratched and computers play DVDs’ much better sometimes.

But Sounds like your PS2 is dirty from the inside (lens).
I recommend buying a CD/DVD cleaner from an electronic store.
Don’t buy a cheap one, get one thats around 8 – 20 dollars.

What is the best upconverting dvd player currently on the market?

Looking for the best up-converting dvd player on the market with the best possible video signal and best audio signal and features. I don’t want to buy a High Definition DVD player right now, but want the best possible picture on a 1080p or 1080i LCD tv. Looking for the dvd player with lots of extra feature with it (i.e. – HDMI or DVI output, SACD, JPEG viewer, upgradeable, etc.).

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey fred,
Definitely the ones from Marantz.
It has the best upconversion chip from Faroudja and support all the stuff you talk about except 1080p.
I can play HD DivX files as well!!!

I don ‘t see much difference between 1080p and 1080i in terms of visual quality.
