What is a good digital camera to buy?

I want one that takes really sharp pictures, has an optical zoom, not digital zoom, and has at least 3 mega pixels and is under 300 bucks. The digital camera I have now is really bad, it’s a Polaroid I-Zone, and the pictures are horrible. I can’t take pictures of myself with the flash on, because my face gets washed out even if I hold it far away from my face, and if I try to take a picture without the flash, my face is really red and blotchy. I need a good digital camera that’s professional photographer quality. Thank you.

What is the best digital camera for my needs?

My father owns a Sony Cyber-shot (6.0MP), and I love the thing. Its pictures always come out beautifully, and both the zoom and the focus are perfect.
However, it is a very large digital camera and much too bulky for my lifestyle – I need something that I can slip into my purse, not a camera that requires its own purse. I know that as the size of the camera decreases, the zoom must also decrease to a point. Are there any slimmer, sleeker digital cameras on the market that will offer me close to the same features as the Cyber-shot?

Hey cpenrod19,
I have a Casio Exilim EX-S500 and I love it. It is a 5 megapixel camera that take beautiful pictures. It also has a voice recorder, and video recorder with sound. I have a 2GB memory card in mine that allows me to take over 600 pictures or over an hour of video footage. It is very small *about a half inch thick* and it’s a great camera!

What is the best digital camera out there?

I LOVE photography, and i was recently asked to photograph a few weddings. So i am in the works of purchasing a new digital camera. What is a good one out there? Something that has various options, adjustable, and a fast shutter speed and decently priced? any suggestions?

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey melissam46,
I’ll resist the urge to comment on someone who doesn’t even own a decent camera thinking about photographing weddings and just answer the question. I’m sure there are others who will blast you to pieces and I’ll just leave that to them.

I don’t know what you mean by “decently priced,” but if you are even dreaming of shooting a wedding, you should think about a Nikon D90 or Canon T2i as a minimum entry point. With either one, you will need a fast lens for weddings. With the Nikon, the 17-55 f/2.8 would work. I am not familiar with Canon’s lenses, so look for something similar. You’d also need a good flash, such as a Nikon SB-900 (skip the others) or Canon equivalent. This would keep you under $ 3,000 and with a lot of help and study, you might be able to take some wedding photos without being sued.
