How to connect analog surround sound system to digital tv/dvd player?
My father has an old surround sound system ( not sure what brand) that has wires for individual hook ups to an older dvd player. He now has a blue ray dvd player and wants to hook up the old speakers to it. Is there a device that allows this or does he need to buy a new set of speakers?

Hey ,
there should be a red and white socket on both the dvd player and the surround system, if you connect the two you should be able to play sound through the speakers. it should be labelled something like auxillary input/output. the red one is for the right channel, the white one for the left. if both have a 5 or 6 socket input/output, then you will be able to do surround sound by connecting the corresponding colours. go to yoru nearest hi-fi or electronics specialist and explain the problem and they should be able to supply or make a suitable cable for a reasonably low price (<£5)

Can a standard DVD player be converted for HDMI?
Just got a new Philips plasma 50″ screen TV with 2 HDVI inlets. Have a practically new, and hardly ever used, Sony DVD player with standard Red-Yellow-White cables. Is there a HDVI cable that can somehow be used with this DVD player, or should I scrap it and buy new one. It is in excellent shape and would hate to have to discard.

No DVD players play in HD, the resolution you get out of a set of composites are the best it gets and for DVD hi-def isn’t really offered. Can it be converted to HDMI, well in theory yes it can but you will not get upscaled resolution. Realistically upscaling itself is a joke, it utilizes an age old dithering technique to give the illusion of HD. You have 2 realistic choices for HD video and thats Blu-Ray and HD-DVD and I wouldn’t even bother with those until a combined unit is produced and the prices drop….a lot

just look up your dvd player brand and version and type it in a search engine and at the end of those put hack

Madonna – Isaac [Confessions Tour DVD]
On the Confessions Tour, Isaac was opened by the man who lent his name to the song, singing the Im nin’alu intro and playing the shofar, a kind of horn. On the main stage a female dancer dressed in burka dances inside a cage. Madonna appears at the end of the catwalk, and sings and dances her way to the main stage. As Isaac sings his part, Madonna kneels down (to the joy of the fans close to the catwalk). She then approaches the cage and frees Sofia from the burka, who then runs happily onto the catwalk, free as the bird on the screen. Four male dancers join Madonna for a final group choreography.
