Just because you can play a file on your computer and see moving images, and burn that file to a DVD-R, won’t necessarily mean that you have made a DVD.

The data on a DVD movie is several GB in size, wich for most is to to much to download. So usually this data has been converted to some other format that is much smaller but still can be played on a computer. This format may not be supported by your DVD player, thus it will not play.

The extension on the file you downloaded is probably something like .avi .mpg .wmv

An .avi file may play on some DVD players, depending on what “codec” has been used and that your player supports said codec.

How do I program my EchoStar remote control to my Philips DVD player?

I have a Philips DVD player and I’ve lost the remote for it. I need to program my universal EchoStar remote to the DVD player, but nothing I’ve read online works. I have even spoken to tech support with EchoStar and Dish Network (where I got the remote) and nothing is working. Maybe if I could find the specific code for it?
The codes that were sent from Thomas did not work. What can we try next? A universal remote?

There are definitely some steps to help you get this taken care of. The link provided below will let you search based on your equipment for any codes we have available. With the link I have also provided steps to program using a code.

Addressing Remote to AUX:

1.) Press and hold the clear AUX button until all mode lights light up.
2.) Release and AUX light will be blinking.
3.) Enter code and press #. The AUX button should flash 3 times.
4.) Try functions (Power, Start, etc..) and see if working.
5.) If no function, repeat steps 1-4 with another code.

Our remotes aren’t guaranteed to work all types of equipment, but if the problem continues we can definitely try a power scan as our last step. Let me know here the results!

Do you need a special player for Blue Ray discs or can you use a standard DVD player?

You need a blue ray disk player.

And blue ray players play SOME but not ALL regular disks, but mostly only blue ray. They do not play the competing hd format.

And hd players play SOME but not ALL regular disks, but mostly only hd. They do not play the competing blue ray format.

Yes, it sucks! BUT:
There are a few (expensive) players that play both kinds of disks, as well as the regular ones.
This is the kind of player I would advise you to get.
