What could be wrong with my portable DVD player?

It powers up, and the disk is spinning, but the DVD does not play – I am using the same region DVD as the player. Are there any tech savvy people out there that could give me a hint of what it might be? Is it most likely just a cleaning it needs? How do I clean a portable DVD player properly?

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey Askmeanything,
To clean a prtable DVD player you can buy a cleaning disc from most stores. This disc has a small brush on its underside that will “sweep” off the lens. You may also want to get a can of duster. This is a high pressure can that simply sprays out air through a ong skinny hose. This will move dust from vital components. Try that, and also go through the players menu to see if you accidentally changed any options that might prevent it from playing the ussual DVD. If you power it up and the screen turns on and everything looks right, then it might even be the disc, bu i assume you tried playing different DVD’s in it. Hope this helps!

Was there ever a Little Mermaid themed DVD Player manufactured by any company?

I am trying to find out if any company ever produced a Little Mermaid themed DVD Player or Television. I found a Batman themed dvd player and tv for my son. Would like to find a little mermaid set for my daughter.

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey AW,
No. When the Little Mermaid was released in the 90′s no company at that time was producing theme made TV or DVD players. Several years ago they made the Disney Princess TV and DVD player , then the Batman ones, Dora the explorer , Disney Pixar Cars , Pirates of the Caribbean and Spongebob.

How Do You Hook Up an Old DVD Player to a new HDTV?

I have an Toshiba 42″ 1080p LCD HDTV REGZA, cable box and a DVD Player. I can’t figure out how to hook up my DVD player to either my TV. My cable cords use the same cords slots as my DVD player.

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey lordstryfe1,
Since you said your DVD player is old, I assume it does not have an HDMI output. If it had component video (Red, Green, Blue) then you need a component cable and you can connect it to the HDTV. You still need red and white audio (composite) to get the audio to your TV. If you do not have component output, then your only bet is composite (yellow for video, red and white for audio). HDTVs are intelligent enough to recognize all the inputs you plug into them.

What is a good software for creating DVD player compatible DVDs on the PC?

For Christmas I am making a DVD for my brother of his favorite show, seasons one and two. I have all of the episodes but am stumped as to where to go about looking for the right software to burn them with. I’m looking for something that would enable there to be a DVD menu where he could select the exact episode that he wants, like a normal DVD for TV show seasons. If someone could help m e out here I’m sure that this would make his Christmas.

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey God Of Desecration,
FAVC can do that: http://favcfavc.googlepages.com

It can generate a simple menu for you automatically that would let you choose episodes. If you wanted a more professional-looking menu, however, with images, sounds or video clips, you’d have to make it in an external program and then import it into FAVC. If you just want a plain, but functional menu though, FAVC can do it automatically, if I recall correctly.
