Can a blu ray disc be played on a old dvd player or do I need to buy a new player to play them?

How can I connect my digital converter box, DVD player, and my Wii together?
I have an older TV that just has the cable jack and the yellow and white jacks for the audio and picture output in the back of my TV.

Can I use a computer monitor with a DVD player to watch movies?
I already have 3 TVs and a PC at home, BUT my kids and hubby are always using them. I need somewhere to play movies or exercise DVDs, and since I’ve noticed that some flat screen monitors are less expensive than laptops and regular TVs, I was wondering if I could just plug a DVD to a computer monitor where I could at least watch something in my spare time.
