Digital Camera User Questions

What is a good digital camera i can get for christmas?

I am 14 years old. I want a digital camera for christmas. I love looking at national georgraphic photographs and seeing all the detailed pictures and stuff. I need a quick pic camera. I want the kind where you plug it in to something to charge it. Good video quality. And of course it has to be good for taking myspace pictures :]]
I like taking pictures of just anything. Like rural landscapes and stuff. And I can also run around with it at the beach and take pics and have fun.

What is the best digital camera for the money?

I’d specifically like a Canon, because I’ve always been pleased with the picture quality and the overall ease of use, or a Fuji, because I’ve been told they are made by the same company, but I’m up for suggestions on other brands. I would really like something with at least 10 megapixels and 10x optical zoom. Any suggestions?

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey Aaron,
Since you mention optical zoom, that means you don’t want a DSLR. So you either want a compact or bridge/superzoom camera.

My sense is that you may not be ready for a DSLR just yet. An excellent digial superzoom to consider is the Canon SX10 IS. It is the #1 rated camera of the superzoom breed right now.

Size wise it is slightly bigger than a typical compact P&S, but definitely smaller than the low-end DSLRs. It’s great because it allows you to take auto, semi-auto or full manual shots (so you can learn before you decide whether to move up to a DSLR). Plus it’s got one of the longest optical zooms on the mkt. And, not least, it’s affordable!

Is there a digital camera, or IP Camera or something like that, which can last up to 1 million photos?

I need one to build a machine which can take photos of envelopes which fall, and read data from the pictures(barcode). So it has to have a good sensor to get some quality in the photo and probably be able to take photos at 1/4000 shutter speed or something like that. The shutter must last for 1 MILLION photos. Any ideas?

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey gabibyte,
Since the best camera system for this application would be a video camera, 1 million images shouldn’t be too hard. That way you get an electronic shutter, no moving parts.

Not able to recommend anything specific, but you would be better served looking at industrial vision cameras. You aren’t going to meet your specs with a Canon powershot or anything similar.

What is a better digital camera to go with, Canon or Nikon?

Is Nikon or Cannon better? Why do people buy SLR and Nikon cameras when they can buy 8-10MP Sony Cybershots which also take video?
Im just wondering, I dont know the differences between why people go with SLR over point and shoot sony cybershot type cameras with 8MP or more.

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey Cincinnati O,
If you’re talking point-and-shoot, go Canon. If you’re talking 35mm Digital SLR body, I’d go Nikon because their SLR lenses are better.

The main reason people go with SLRs over point-and-shoots is the picture quality really is better with a digital SLR. You can also swap lenses on a 35mm digital SLR so you can get extreme close-ups with a tele-photo lens or extreme close-up detail with a 30mm (or smaller focal length) lens. In this day and age, unless you’re a professional photographer or a photography enthusiast, your typical Sony Cybershot (or Canon/Nikon equivalent) is fine.

Can anyone recommend a digital camera whose pictures do not come out so drastically clear and sensitive?

I tried the Canon powershot SD750 but the photos come out too crisp and clear to every detail. I need a camera that is a little less drastic when it comes to facial details, shadowings, not so offensive.Any recommendations?

Hey Victoria,
Why don’t you switch the camera settings to “manual” and experiment from there.
