im 16 and i found a diamond earring on the ground while i was hiking in canada. im not sure its real, but it seems to be based on simple tests. i feel badly for whoever lost it, but im afraid if i bring it into the police one of them will take it and pretend it was claimed–this happened to a friend of mine. if i put an ad in the paper, what should i say?? help! i dont know what to do.

I lost my diamond earring!?
I first noticed it was gone a couple of hours ago in my room.
