How long can i keep my earrings out before they close?

ive had my ears peirced for a few months, and i changed them to a new pair of earrings a while ago, and when i changed them my ears got infected. My mom took the earrings out and put neosporin on them. We wanted to let them air out for a while, but didnt know how long you can keep them out without them closing up?

Hey ,
If you’ve only had them pierced a few months it’s probably not wise to leave them out for long. Put your original earings you were pierced with back in as they will keep them open and not inflame the infection any further.
Now you might jsut have gotten an infection through other means but it might have been the earings you put in, cheap metals have nickle in them and some people are allergic to it as it effectivly a poison though obviously won’t do you anymore harm than to irritate your skin like it has done. If you are allergic to nickle you will need to make sure you are wearing titanium, surgical steel or high quality gold earrings as they do not contain nickle. If you have any questions go into your local tattoo studio and a professional piercer will be able to give you some advice. I wouldn’t suggest asking anyone in a hairdressers, jewellers or shop if you got them done there. Honestly those people arn’t trained enough and shouldn’t be piercing.
