The Top Ten Popular Tourist Attractions in the US
1. Times Square, New York City
The “Crossroads of the World” is visited by more people than any other place in the United States and is one of the most recognizable places in the world! This popular icon of New York City is an intersection of Broadway theatre, entertainment and pedestrians, and one of the few places that businesses are actually required to have lighted signs. Times Square sees over 1 million people just on New Year’s Eve alone. And with many fabulous hotels to stay at in the area (Doubletree, The Sheraton), Times Square can be your destination in NYC too. Just remember to pack your latest fashion to fit in!
2. The Strip, Las Vegas
Located just outside of Las Vegas City proper, “The Strip” is the gambling capital of the world. With 19 of the biggest hotels ever built, the strip offers just as many amazing sites to go with them. Visitors dine at the best all you can eat buffets, catch a show from Cirque du Soleil and then gamble away at casinos before the night is through. From the famous Bellagio fountains to indoor skydiving to the miniature Eiffel tower, Sin City’s Strip is no-gamble for having fun on vacation!
3. National Mall and Memorial Parks, Washington D.C.
Without a doubt, D.C. is the history epicenter of the U.S. Millions of visitors each year are impressed by the expanse and depth shown in the various memorials within the National Mall. While too many to list them all, these areas include the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument and the WWII Memorial.
4. Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Boston
Located near the Government Center in Boston, Faneuil Hall is famous for its role in the independence of the United States from England and considered by some to be the “Cradle of Liberty.” Famous speeches were given by Samual Adams and James Otis here, and to this day it is used for political debates. It is one of the stops on Freedom Trail as well.
5. Magic Kingdom, Orlando
When it gets too cold to visit the Northeast, many travel down to Orlando for some daydreaming realized: Magic Kingdom is like walking into your childhood dreams. “The Most Magical Place on Earth” is the most visited theme park in the world and has six theme world areas, each with characters ready to hand out hugs and take photos with the family.
6. Disneyland Park, Anaheim
Following its younger sister, Disneyland Park in California is the second-most visited park in the world and the original Disney theme park vision of Walt Disney. Since the park’s opening, Disneyland has seen more visitors than double the entire population of the United States! Disneyland Park featured Mickey’s Toontown, New Orleans Square and Frontier Land, and yes, still has live Cinderella to take your picture with.
7. Fisherman’s Wharf & the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco
If grand architecture is what you seek, follow the roads to San Fran’s Golden Gate Bridge. You can either drive across it or (better yet!), park and take a stroll across the most recognizable bridge in the world. Afterwards, follow the cable cars down to Pier 39 where you can buy a 1/4 pound sourdough loaf and then devour a bowl of clam and crab chowder! Top it off will chocolate from the Ghirardeli shop and you’ve finished a day properly in San Fransisco.
8. Niagara Falls, New York
A short 7-hour drive from New York City will bring you to majestic Niagara Falls, a series of impressive and awe-inspiring waterfalls that have the highest flow of any waterfall in the world. Some stunt-devils have even braved the flow and gone over the falls in barrels, though this is illegal and many have died trying. We recommend a boat tour instead, with the Maid in the Mist tour the most well-known. Be sure to pack a poncho or buy one there because you’re going to get wet!
