Digital Camera User Questions

Good digital camera for novice photographer who wants to travel?

I own a Canon EOS 630 (film), my Dad’s old camera, with a 300mm lens which i have practicing on for a few years and i am ready to move on to digital. I am by no means going professional but i would like a great quality camera to take with me whilst i travel. I am told a Nikon D80 might be the way to go but I would like the professionals’ opinions from all of you.

I apologize if this sounds like all the other questions…Thanks in advance.

Hey danielleedison06,
That is a good camera. You do want the big lens because photos alway come out better. Capturing what your eye can see is not easy with a small point and shoot camera.

What digital camera should I get for ShutterPoint Photography?

I have been looking, but I wanted to know what you all thought. I am looking for a camera around $ 300 and under. Closer to $ 250 the better. I just want it over 5mp. I want it so I can use a remote switch and use a tripod. I only say that, because the camera I have now hasnt the ability to have a remote switch. I want to sell my photos. I want to make a calendar out of them and sell them on ShutterPoint. I have a lot of people interested in my photography, I just havent had the right camera. So what do you think I should look into? Thanks in advance :-)

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey Angel,
I am sure there are many digital cameras that will fit your needs. Take a look at dpreview to compare the various 5mp plus cameras available to day. The tough part is finding one with a remote switch. I have an old Nikon Coolpix 990 that has a remote switch (optional), but I think I paid nearly $ 100 for the switch alone.

I just did a search for digital camera remote controls and found some listed under a company called become.com.

You may find exactly what you want when you do the research.

Which digital camera is most simple to use?

I would like to purchase a digital camera for my mother, but she is not very great with technology, so I would like to purchase something as simple as possible. I do not need any fancy features – just the basics. Would like to keep it inexpensive if possible. Any suggestions? Thanks!

What digital camera to you reccommend for regular use for the best price?

I’ve already had a cheap crappy one. I’m looking for something that’s not priced more than 250, and Canon Powershots seem the best.
Your advice?

Hey Dani dan dan,
Canon is the best. Go for it

What digital camera of todays technology is comparable to the medium format mamiya m645 1000s?

Also is the mamiya m645 1000s quality better than that of the nikon d80?

Based on emails, here’s our Top Ten Answers for you:

Hey hobiesailor07,
You can get better image quality from a mamiya m645 than you can from a d80. I would say that to get image quality roughly equivalent to a 6×4.5 negative, you would need to go with a digital camera like the Nikon D3x.
