Will it get infected if I dont put in a real silver, gold or steel earring?

Im piercing my second hole myself sometime soon.. I know its a very bad idea but I recently did my nose myself and it healed very quickly and never once has it been infected. Im wondering if I pierce my second hole it will get infected if i dont put in a silver, gold or steel earring? I know its a better idea but im not sure if any of these studs are cheap or not.
when i say i know its an idea im just saying thats what most ppl say to me when I say im doing a piercing myself. But personally I like it better than going to a shop cause i get scared cause they did my belly buttom wrong and it ripped out D:

Earring infection — I tried 24k gold(so soft that they bend), and hypoallergic ones.?

It has been almost two years since I had them pierced. The first few months were fine… then all of a sudden, constant infection…I tried to avoid nickel – but I still get redness, clear discharge, and itchiness (not much soreness). The skin around the holes looks bad. I don’t get allergy to metal elsewhere – necklaces, rings, belt buckles are never a problem. I tried Claire’s solution, Neosporin, alcohol, hydro-peroxide, dial soap, salt water soak. Nothing worked and they only make the skin around the piercing very irritated. I’ve seen a doctor and he said I’d better take them out and let them close. I did – for four months. But the itchiness just wouldn’t stop – and it was so itchy last week that I put them back in (didn’t really hurt at all). Now the discharge started again. What do I do? Shall I try platinum? I really don’t want to give up. I don’t like any other jewelry besides earrings.

Hey Flying bear,
Try platinum jewelry. There is metal sensitivity in my family. I can’t wear anything less than gold, and my sister can only wear platinum, it’s supposed to be easier on the skin than gold if you are sensitive!

Where can I find a 14 or 10 gauge, gold, no texture, single hoop earring for men?

I’m looking for a SINGULAR earring (not pair) of these criteria:

* Gold (not plated)
* 14 or 10 gauge
* No texture
* For a lob piercing

It’s like the standard CBR (Captive Bead Ring) and what I’m looking for is that but without the bead. This is for my boyfriend, so the less fancy details to the earring, the better.

Know where I can find that for a decent price?

Hey h1s4k0,
Call local jewelers and ask them if they will make you a 1.5mm to 2mm thick, unsoldered, polished jump ring in whatever karat you desire. You don’t mention the diameter of the hoop you want, but you’ll need to have that information when you phone the jeweler. Tell them you want it to be round.

This is not a difficult request of a jeweler who makes his own jewelry, and even those quasi-jewelers who work strictly out of a catalog should be able to order you what you desire (tell them to call Stuller.)

If you were in my local area I’d send you to one of my clients. I’m a wholesale-to-the-trade jeweler and don’t/won’t deal with the public.

earring allergies? if im elergic to sterling silver, what are the odds that i will be alergic to gold?

a couple years ago i got my ears pierced at Claires. when they pierced my ears, they used sterling silver because that was the only kind of metal they had. now they have gold birthstone ones and i really want to re pierce my ears. my moms taking me to get them pierced today, but i was just wondering, what are the chances that i will be allergic to gold also? when ever i wear gold necklaces i don’t get a rash or anything, but i guess piercing your ears is a little different because it goes inside your skin. i don’t know i just don’t want to have to let them close again xD any ideas?

Hey jasper and alice forever!,
Some can be allergic to 9 ct gold especially has it as more allooys -14 is half of it that but ideally 18 ct gold most ideal becuse is pure and should not get alergic from it
